Listen!

So many are troubled 
Stuck in the midst of 
Their party's moral outrage
Unable to see another perspective 
Without raising fist of rage
Whatever happen to ideas being discussed
On an open and fair stage
Without reason men become wild animals
Needing the control of a cage

Is it just possible that I am absolutely right
While being absolutely wrong
Might I grow wiser if
I listen to the opposition's  song
Have our minds become too weak to hear anything but our own rhetoric 
Why is sitting down and talking 
A radical shtick ?

I don't get it!!!
I never have got it!!!
Why do humans insist 
On destroying one another?
Why is it so hard to see 
Others as brothers?

I know there is evil
And cruelty and selfishness in the world!
Never once have I seen it prevail over 
Generosity and kindness and forgiveness

We lost souls counted by the millions 
In the last century
We still haven't figured out 
Men are content 
When they have a full belly

Ideas have consequences 
Yes, of course!
But we all have limited vision and 
Skewed minds 
So listening is an idea we ought to try!
