On Her Own

For Deborah Boucher. As she is prepares to move into her first apartment

My Daughters room
Is going to be empty soon

On her own

Driving her Scion ia little white carriage
Just working
Independent of thoughts of marriage

My anachronistic soul
Would like to see it different
But it is a modern world
And she is making her way in it

On her own

A prophetic lithograph
Hangs on her wall
The seerer's eyes
Similar to her own

I pray she takes vision
Into her first little home

On her own

Missing people
Who haven't left yet
Might be a sign middle age
But she was 8 years old
For a 4 year stage

She has experienced my deep Love
And my deep outrage

My little girl
A full grown woman
She has her little home
In a great big world

I am
Feeling a little pride
She still may need
Her Daddy by her side

But my little girl
Is strong enough
She isn't looking
For a place to hide

On her own
